Friday Flirt with Author Bethanne Strasser!

You know, I really miss flirting with my fellow authors and their stories! So when my dear friend, Bethanne Strasser, told me she had some promo stuff happening over at the Entangled Publishing, LLC Facebook page, I begged and pleaded with her to let me help her flirt with my readers. Without further adieu, let me tempt you with a little excerpt from her book, Letters from Home. After reading, be sure to jump on over to the Entangled Publishing Facebook page where there will be a Q & A session later today where you can grill Bethanne with whatever questions your little hearts desire!

Zack finally caught Lena’s gaze from across the table, and he lifted a brow as if to ask her, what is this?

Not that he didn’t enjoy spending time with the family. As a matter of fact, until the holidays had come around, there’d only been a few dinners since summer ended. School, work, and life had taken precedence.

Lena shrugged and a slight flush rose on her cheeks.

“Lena, you and me, at the pool table for a game.” When it looked like she might refuse, Zack stood and went around the table.

“I play winner.” Juan called out.

“Oh, no. I can’t. I stink at pool, Zack. You know very well how badly I play pool.”

“Come on. Smart girl like you should have no problem setting up a table and sinking a few balls. Practice, that’s all.” Zack tugged on Lena’s chair. He took her hand and was surprised to feel a slight tremble in it. He tightened his grip. “Relax, I’m not going to bite. It’s just a friendly game of billiards.”

She laughed, almost nervously. He let her hand go when they reached the little cove with a table in it. They were just hidden from view, enough to be able to talk privately, or make out. But that was just his imagination running away with him.

They both took a cue, and Zack set the table. Her silence put him on edge. Usually he knew what she was thinking, now he felt out-of-sorts. He’d asked her out on a date—hadn’t he?

She’d come with an entourage.

“Zack?”

He looked up and found her waiting for him. He made the opening break and nodded to her. “Your turn.”

She stared at him with a blush rising on her cheeks. “Where do I start?”

He relaxed, smiled at her, then studied the table, looking for her first move. “Over here,” he started and took her arm to guide her around to where the cue ball sat. “Go for the solids. You can hit the four in, no problem. Easy peasy.”

She stood behind her cue and leaned over the table.

“No. Not like that.” Zack moved in behind her.

The idea hadn’t started out as a ploy, but now that he was here, breathing in the delicious scent of her perfume, he enjoyed the heat of her against his skin where his arms met hers. They were hip to hip. He cupped her hand in his and rested the cue stick on top of it.

She fit perfectly under his arm and against his body.

He cleared his throat as lust shot straight through his bones. “Ready?”

She turned her head and eyed him suspiciously. Her gaze fell to his lips for a fraction of a second, but she turned back to the table and took her shot. The light bracelets at her wrists chimed, and the purple ball rolled into the corner pocket. “Okay.” She grinned, turning into his space. His hands went to her shoulders where they met skin, supple and smooth.

“That wasn’t too hard at all,” she whispered. Her breath seemed caught in her throat, as if maybe, maybe she felt something too.

Zack stayed where he was, absorbing her warmth, the happiness that seemed to roll off her. This was what he’d wanted for her when he asked her to go out with him. Just a chance to have some fun, remember what it was like when they were younger.

He brushed strands of her hair from her face, the touch making his heart stutter. The urge to kiss her overwhelmed him. “Lena.”

“Yes?”

With his thumb, Zack traced a line along her collarbone. He tunneled his hand under the thick weight of her dark hair. Her eyes were wide with wonder. When he dipped his head to taste her, her lips parted, and she sucked in a breath.

Zack’s heart was pounding. Like the staccato of his M16, beating against his chest.

The kiss was soft and slow, and at first she didn’t respond at all. On the verge of letting her go completely, he felt her hands come up and grip his waist. Her lips moved against his.

Nothing in his entire life had felt so right before. He sank into her.

“Hey guys…Whoa!”

Zack groaned at the intrusion. Lena broke away, sucked in another breath, this one filled with shock and what-did-I-do?

His eyes slid shut. Damn it.

Now wasn’t that just lovely and enticing? You know you want to grab this story and put it on your e-reader right now, right? It is a very fun enjoyable story that I’m sure you won’t be disappointed in. Flirting With Secrets~

Whoot! I love when Nina Croft stops by for flirty Fridays. And today, she is flirting with secrets. You’re intrigued aren’t you? Well without further adieu, here she is!

Hi, I’m Nina Croft, and I love flirting with paranormal creatures. Today, I’m returning to wolves and talking about Bound to Secrets, my latest release and book 3 in my Sisters of the Moon paranormal romance series.

Each book is also a stand-alone romance and Bound to Secrets is Connor and Keira’s story. Connor is a doctor turned werewolf and very unhappy about the whole thing. Keira is a telepath whose powers are so strong and so out of control that she risks killing anyone she gets close to. Obviously this makes flirting with Connor very hard. In fact it makes doing anything with Connor (apart from patting him on the head when he’s in wolf form and therefore safe from her powers) almost impossible.

So here are a few lines from Connor and Keira to show how they manage to communicate when they can’t actually talk to each other…

The girl held up a hand, palm facing him, and shook her head fiercely.

Connor came to a halt ten feet away.

“No,” she whispered, her voice hoarse as though from lack of use. “I can’t…you must go. Please.”

“I don’t want to hurt you.” Connor kept his tone soothing as he took a step closer.

“Not me. You.”

For a moment, he had no idea what she meant. Then pain flooded his mind.

~*~

She’d accepted long ago that she would never have a normal life. Never be normal. She was a freak. That’s what the guards back at the Agency had called her. And they were right.

But then this man, or wolf or whatever he was, had hardly been normal.

What had she thought?

That they could be freaks together?

Hardly.

~*~

Behind Sebastian padded a huge black wolf. Connor. Her fake smile faded to be replaced by the real thing. He came to a halt by her chair and sat on his haunches, resting his great head on her lap. She stroked him while she waited for Sebastian to speak.

He perched on the edge of her bed, his expression solemn. Keira glanced from one to the other.

“Tell me,” she said.

It was bad news. She knew it. She was killing everyone. Or dying. Or…

~*~

Connor growled.

“She needs to know the options,” Sebastian said to him. “If this works you’ll have plenty of time to do what you like. But not if you’re dead.”

Connor tugged away from her and went to stand in front of Sebastian. He growled some more.

Sebastian sighed. “Yeah, I’ll tell her.”

“Tell me what?” Keira asked.

His lips quirked. “That if you have sex with one of those blood sucking leeches, Connor will rip their throat out.”

~*~

“Is it so bad being a wolf?” she asked.

He didn’t answer, but turned away and paced the room. It took him two steps to reach the wall and he swiveled and came back. She could see the frustration in his eyes, and the fear. He was scared as well. She just wasn’t sure what he feared. That they would fail or that they’d succeed.

Bound to Secrets – Blurb

Flirting with Wolves~

Happy Friday everyone! I have a surprise for all you lovelies out there….Nina Croft. Don’t you all love me? I invited her back to flirt with us again. Rico was so damn sexy in her last flirt, I figured she’s gotta have more sexiness and hot man flirting to kick off our weekend. Right? So let’s see if she is up to the challenge!

~*~

Hi, I’m Nina Croft, and Moira has very nicely invited me back to flirt some more. Last time I was here, I was flirting with a vampire. So today, for a change, I’m going to flirt with a werewolf and give you a few lines from Sebastian Quinn, the hero of Bound to Moonlight, my latest release.

So here’s a few lines from Sebastian and Anya:

“I’m going to leave you alone for a while,” Sebastian said. “I want you to think about it, and when I come back, you will tell me what happened to my people.” He locked the door and turned to leave.

“Sebastian.”

“What?”

“I’ll never talk.”

A pain clenched his heart. “Then I think we will both live to regret it.”

~*~

Then he was pressing her into the bars with his hard body. He leaned in close to her ear, and his warm breath whispered against her neck. “I will make you talk,” he murmured, and she shivered at the dark promise in his voice.

~*~

“I hurt. Am I dying?”

“Not if I can help it.”

Anya smiled then, a slight curve of her lips that didn’t banish the fear from her eyes. “I don’t think you can.”

“Sweetheart, I can do anything I want to.”

“I’m not your sweetheart. I’m not anyone’s sweetheart.” Her tone was sad and defeated. “I’m scared,” she whispered.

~*~

“You’re being nice,” she said.

He gave her a wolfish smile. “Just until you’re better.”

She bit her lip. “Then what?”

“Then you tell me who you’re working for and what you’ve done with my people.”

“Are you going to make me?”

She searched his face, saw the smile slide away and his eyes turn to ice. She shivered.

“I’ll do whatever I need to get my people back,” he said.

~*~

“I’m not going to break,” Anya said.

“I don’t want to hurt you.”

“You won’t.” She reached up and framed his beautiful face with her fingers, stared into his eyes, human once more. “Make love to me, Sebastian. Make love as though it’s the only time we’ll ever have.”

Let me know what kind of supernatural creature you would like to flirt with for a chance to win an ecopy of Bound to Moonlight.

Bound to Moonlight – Blurb

Anya, a powerful telepath, has always believed she worked for the good guys–the organization that created her, trained her, and turned her into the ultimate weapon. Her most recent assignment: assassinate the head of a group of mercenaries. The very man she believes is responsible for the death of her sister.

Investigating the disappearance of three pack members, Alpha werewolf, Sebastian Quinn, finds himself under the scrutiny of a deadly group, The Agency. Targeted by their assassin, he must now fight to save his own life.

Captured and held by the charismatic werewolf, Anya feels the stirrings of passion. For the first time, there is something beyond duty. Now she is faced with a choice — complete her assigned mission or risk everything she has ever known for a chance at love.

Well, she definitely didn’t let me down! Thank you so much for stopping by Nina. Now come on all my lovely readers…tell us about your dream supernatural flirt! Lay it on us…we can take it.

Nina Croft Wants You to Flirt with Rico!

I’m so honored to have the lovely and talented Nina Croft as one of my crit partners! (Is it obvious that I want some of her sparkling brilliance to rub off?) So when I asked Nina if she wanted to flirt with some of my readers out there, she couldn’t wait. In fact, I had to tie her to the chair and gag her for a bit, while I prepared. Okay maybe I didn’t gag her, but she does like to be tied…or so I’ve heard. Now that I’ve given her the floor, I can see why she was anxious. One word – Rico. ‘Nuff said. So lets go flirt with him shall we?

Flirting with Rico…

Hi, I’m Nina Croft and for my flirts this Friday, I thought I’d give you a few lines from my sci-fi/paranormal romance, Break Out. Break Out is book one of my Blood Hunter series, which follows the adventures, romantic and otherwise, of the crew of the space cruiser, El Cazador de la Sangre (or The Blood Hunter).

So, here’s Rico, owner and pilot (and vampire) of El Cazador, interacting with the two main women in his life: Tannis, his captain, and Skylar the beautiful and mysterious rebel who has employed the crew to break her brother out of a maximum security prison.

Tannis ran a hand through her short, spiky hair. “It’s got to be a setup. Maybe you’d better get me a list of people you’ve pissed off recently.”

Rico frowned. “How long have we got?”

“Good point—probably not long enough.”

“Is she dead?” she asked.

“No, she’s not bloody dead.” Rico scowled. “Jesus, why does everybody think I go around killing people?”

“Well, it has been known,” Tannis said mildly.

“Only when they deserved it.” He glanced at Al and couldn’t resist adding, “Or when I was really hungry.”

“You’re tense,” Rico murmured, lowering his head so his cool breath brushed the back of Skylar’s neck.

“Er, you’ve just told me you kill your prey—sorry—sometimes kill your prey, and now you’re sniffing at me like I smell good enough to eat.”

“You do smell good enough to eat.” He breathed in deeply. “And while I do sometimes kill my prey, I very rarely kill my lovers.”

Rico’s hand went to his waist, and he flicked the fastener of his weapons belt. Then to his thigh. He flicked the second, and the belt clashed to the floor. He took another step toward her. Skylar swallowed.

“I love that dress, but take it off,” he ordered softly.

“Why the hell is it my fault?” Rico asked.

Tannis snorted. “She probably only picked this ship because she’d heard what a pushover you were. Forget that ‘I heard you’re the best’ crap. I bet it was more a case of she’d heard all she needed to do was to flash a big pair of tits in your face and your brain would fly out the airlock.”

Someone sniggered. Tannis glared at the crew, and the sound was cut off abruptly.

As you can see, Rico might flirt with Skylar, but never with Tannis—she’d probably shoot him with her laser pistol!

I’m running a competition this month. You can see the prizes on my website, including a $15 GC and three ecopies of Break out. For a chance to enter, all you need to do is either comment on this post or tweet the following quote from Rico:

“Tannis, stop whatever you’re doing, bring my goddamn spaceship, and pick me up.” Break Out by @Nina_croft #BloodHunter @entangledpub

Break Out – Blurb

The year is 3048, Earth is no longer habitable, and man has fled to the stars where they’ve discovered the secret of immortality—Meridian. Unfortunately, the radioactive mineral is exorbitantly expensive and only available to a select few. A new class comprised of the super rich and immortal soon evolves. The Collective, as they’re called, rule the universe.
Two-thousand-year-old Ricardo Sanchez, vampire and rogue pilot of the space cruiser, El Cazador, can’t resist two things: gorgeous women and impossible jobs. Flirting with Vicki Pettersson

Yeah she doesn’t know it and I’m not actually flirting with ‘her’, but I slacked Was busy reading The Taken) and didn’t put together my post in time so I’m flirting with lines from her  books. Can’t help myself. When I list authors that inspire me with the stories they write and the interactions they have with readers and fellow authors alike, she totally makes the list for me. Readers might know her for her Zodiac Series, but she also has a new series called Celestial Blue which is proving to be just as awesome as Zodiac was. I ask that you please forgive my horrible photography, but look how awesome the book looks on my Kindle. Oh I think I’m getting off topic-back to the flirt, here are some favorites from the books I’ve read!

“Just because someone tried to make you into a victim didn’t mean that’s what you had to be.” ~ The Scent of Shadows

“ ‘Being single…is about hope. It’s about the future…the person you might meet at Starbucks or online or in the next aisle at the grocery store.’ ” ~The Taken
“Next time,” I said wryly, swinging open the door, “just give me a knife and ask for a vein.”
~ The Taste of Night
“ ‘Sex drives us, love or no love. Power or no power. Money or no money. It’s the most powerful drug in the world. Some pay for it. Some die for it.’ ” ~ The Taken
“But no life was without it’s strain & strife, not if it was fully lived. Opening up to experience, even the good ones like trust & love, was to open yourself up to the pain.” ~ The Neon Graveyard

So there you have it, a few lines to flirt and tempt you into reading one of my all time favorite authors if you haven’t yet embraced her. I was tempted to post a lot more because she is made of awesome, but if I did that you would never go discover her for yourselves and you really want to. Trust me!  You can learn more about Vicki Pettersson over here.
